Overview

The PN2907A (and PN2907) is a high-speed general-purpose PNP bipolar junction transistor manufactured by onsemi, Fairchild, and STMicroelectronics. Common mistakes

  • Assuming base resistor for 2N3906 is adequate at 500mA: When switching higher current loads (300mA500mA300\text{mA} \dots 500\text{mA}), a standard 10kΩ10\text{k}\Omega base resistor provides insufficient base drive (IB<0.5mAI_B < 0.5\text{mA}), keeping the transistor in active/linear mode. Ensure base drive is IBIC/10I_B \approx I_C / 10 to achieve full saturation.
